Google has made a splash with its latest AI updates, following Apple’s recent advancements in the field. At I/O 2024 earlier this year, Google unveiled a suite of AI features, and now, with the June 2024 Pixel Drop update, these innovations are rolling out to Pixel devices, particularly enhancing the experience for Pixel 8 users.

This significant update spans the entire Pixel lineup, including the Pixel Watch and Pixel Tablet, but the focus remains on the premium Pixel 8 series this month.

Key Highlights of the Pixel Drop June 2024 Update – New AI Features for Pixel 8 Series:

One of the most notable enhancements is the introduction of the Gemini Nano AI model to users of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a phones. Initially exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro, Google has overcome potential hardware limitations to extend Gemini Nano to these models.

AI-Powered Audio Transcription:

Similar to Apple’s recent developments in call transcription with iOS 18, Google introduces an AI-powered feature in the default recorder app on Pixel phones. Users can effortlessly record conversations and rely on AI technology to transcribe them fully, eliminating the need for manual play-pause transcription. Additionally, summaries can be generated and exported to text files or directly to Google Docs.

Pixel 8 Connectivity to Large Displays:

Simply connect the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, or 8a to an external display using the built-in USB C port.

Find My Phone, Even When Off:

A highly anticipated update to Find My Device now enables users to locate their Pixel phone even if it is turned off or has a completely drained battery, while ensuring location data remains secure through encryption.

Phone Number Lookup:

This feature allows users to identify unknown numbers directly from their call log, provided they are using the default Google Phone app on their Pixel device.

AI-Enhanced Wallpapers for Variety:

Google introduces AI-powered wallpaper selection for Pixel users, allowing technology to choose home screen images based on user preferences. This feature can be accessed by long-pressing on the main screen, navigating to More Wallpapers, where AI awaits to assist in selecting the perfect backdrop.

These updates underscore Google’s commitment to enhancing user experiences through cutting-edge AI capabilities, ensuring Pixel users stay at the forefront of technology integration.
